My hair is too short to flat iron, do you think the Root Control tool would straighten it?

My hair is a short style, kind of like how Jesse McCartney has his hair right now. I cannot get a flat iron on it, but my hair is really curly and I like to wear it straight sometimes.

I so want to splurge on this appliance in the future, but it's just too much now. If you're looking for something to use now and you also want to grow out your hair then you might not want to buy it and just wait until your hair gets long enough to use a flat iron. !!!!. A friend of mine bought the salon quality one off of the website and I can't help but use hers whenever I'm over there. There's one on ebay right now, but I'm just going to keep tabs on it.
