';The laws that forbid the carrying of arms ... disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes. Can it be supposed that those who have the courage to violate the most sacred laws of humanity ... will respect the less important and arbitrary ones ... Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants, they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man.'; 鈥?Thomas Jefferson
Bottom line: Criminals do not obey lawsWhats your views on gun control. Are you for it or against it? What are some reasons why or why not?
I am against gun control, we all have the right to bear arms. Making more restrictions on ownership, or the elimination of ownership, will only keep honest people honest. It will NOT solve any crime issues as guns will still be sold on the black market, as is anything that is restricted. Just because the government makes something a criminal act, does not eliminate the act all together.
Gun control doesn't work. See the video in the link below.
Taking guns from law abiding citizens simply renders them unprotected from crime.
In those states where concealed carry permits are readily available, crime is actually LOWER. The FBI knows this, so do the police, and so do gun toting criminals.
Liberals are simply moving toward taking ALL of your rights to privacy, and freedom. Being a liberal means more government control over your lives and everything you can and will do. The last thing a liberal is is independent and tolerant.
In Germany, the National Socialists took guns from citizens, look what it got them. In England, same thing, and now they have more gun violence than ever. Even the English police are now carrying guns and body armor.
The only people who are at risk now are the honest citizens who can no longer protect themselves or their families, just another freedom they are losing.
England is also giving more credence to Sharia law, something we seem to be doing in the USA as well.
Our politicians are in need of some serious education when it comes to freedom, border control, national defence.
There are always dreamy liberals who think passing a law about gun ownership will take guns from criminals. It's this sort of sophomoric argument and ignorance that will take ALL of our freedoms away one by one, and could cost you your life if some gun toting criminal comes into your home and you're there unarmed, and no way to deal with the threat.
In states where guns are allowed, and concealed carry permits are available, gun violence, in fact ALL crimes are down. What is the lesson there? Criminals are less likely to commit a crime if it's more risky, which it would be if they don't know who is carrying a gun to protect themselves and others.
Liberals -- How about GROWING UP and smelling the coffee.
I believe that anyone can get a gun if they want too but it doesnt mean they are going to use it responsibly. I live in Arizona and there is a guy that sells all kinds of guns in front of his house almost every weekend at his garage sale, Seems like every other person hunts here and this is fine as long as its not people...Different states vary, i mean look at California, only 6 hrs. away and their laws are totally different. I think you should be able to own a gun but that it should be registered, still there is nothing to keep a person from lending or selling their gun to someone else.
I fully believe that people kill people, NOT guns. Taking guns away from law abiding citizens does NOT change the guns on the streets. I DO however, support requiring proof of safety classes for anyone purchasing a gun. I do support tight restrictions on how guns can be stored, and I DO support requiring that ALL guns be registered.
Every country has laws controlling guns. In the US your have laws at the Federal, State, and Local levels. These laws control who can buy and own a gun. Yet they only control the citizens who choose to obey them. They have no effect on criminals.
The answer to your question is to first use the existing laws to crack down on the criminals. Stop making it harder for law abiding citizens to own guns.
I am against government attempting to control ANYTHING except that with which they are Constitutionally allowed to.
Guns are just one small thing which masks the bigger thing: Government is nothing more than a management company. The humans who are elected or appointed are no smarter than those who they allegedly govern.
(Ever wonder why we are smart enough to chose our government, but too stupid to govern ourselves?)
The only function of government is to protect our God given rights from those tyrants who would abuse us.
Have you noticed that cocaine, marijuana, heroin, and other drugs are ';controlled'; or illegal? Yet they never go away! Simply making a non-violent action illegal doesn't stop it. In fact, if history is any teacher, the opposite is the case. I'm quite old and I remember before the government declared a war on some drugs; there were almost NO drugs to be had, and the few available were much less expensive. Government laws caused a huge black-market in drugs!
There never would have even been ';crack'; cocaine if government had stayed out of the cocaine business. It was government intervention that caused the importers to bring coke into the US in its ';base'; form in the first place.
I believe people should be allowed to have a gun if they are responsible and perhaps take a class in safety etc.
Guns can be fun for target shooting. I grew up shooting rifles but always under the supervision of my parents.
I don't own a gun but that is my own desision.
Okay I do believe that guns Should NOT be allowed!!!
ask your self why exactly do you need a gun in the first place? Maybe because you think that it would be cool to own one? Terrible response then. lol
States with stricter gun laws scored higher on test scores. For instance California has pretty strict laws on guns. They scored 79 points out of 100. While some other states with less gun laws scored much lower test scores like about 10 for some. Guns have been proved that they would make a students grades so down...
There are many other reasons too...
Guns not only can affect teens they can affect adults and anyone no matter what age they are. reasons why are like school grades health relantionships with family and friends etc.......
GUNS NEED TO BE BANNED! only police and those kinds of people should have guns in their possession.
Sure, I'm for gun control. But only if the guns being controlled are only those on the streets in the hands of criminals. Other than that , no way.
First, look to the intent of the 2nd Amendment. Read the final briefs of the DC vs Heller case. Then look to some quote of the founding fathers like this one:
';A strong body makes the mind strong. As to the species of exercise, I advise the gun. While this gives moderate exercise to the body, it gives boldness, enterprise and independence to the mind. Games played with the ball and others of that nature are too violent for the body and stamp no character on the mind. Let your gun therefore be the constant companion of your walks.';
Thomas Jefferson's advice to his 15 year-old nephew
No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms.';
Thomas Jefferson, Proposed Virginia Constitution, 1776
None but an armed nation can dispense with a standing army. To keep ours armed and disciplined is therefore at all times important.';
Thomas Jefferson 1803
And there are lots more.
Next try to find a legitimate study that shows gun contorl has any positive impact on crime. The CDD (Center for Disease Control) spent 3 years trying to prove it and they couldn't. Professor Gary Kleck also set out to prove once and for all that gun control reduced crimie but after years of work he determined that it did not and that in the final count, the more guns in the hands of law abiding citizens, the less crime there is.

The Bias Against Guns: Why Almost Everything You've Heard About Gun Control Is Wrong by John R. Lott
John Lott is an economist and doesn't even own a gun. But thier research has been attacked a lot but never really disproven and numerous colleges and universities have duplicated thiew work and obtained similar recults.
