I've heard different things about this. I'm curious if you're on the pill, and you start the next pack after you finish your previous one, if it is bad for your body. Not regularly, but just one month when maybe you're on vacation and it'd be a hassle (more than usual anyway) to have your period. Is it bad to use birth control to skip a period?
When you are on birth control you aren't ovulating, so it's perfectly ok to not have a period. There are even a few brands on the market that will only give you 4 periods a year.
If you are still concerned, call your doctors office and ask to talk to the nurse, or call the pharmacy. Those people are there to answer questions like this, so they won't think you are silly.
As someone above me stated, there's a chance you'll get breakthrough bleeding. Sometimes it's just a few drops, sometimes it's a shortened period, sometimes it's a full period, it all depends on how your body wants to react to the hormones. I'd take supplies with you, just in case (hopefully you won't need it though). Is it bad to use birth control to skip a period?
When on birth control, your body doesn't even provide the horomone fluctiations to create the lining of the uterus to shed, so aws long as your on birth control, you don't need a period. Doctors made the pill so that 1. With a period you know your not pregnant and 2. It doesn't seem so ';unnatural.'; What's really unnatural is the amount of periods women have in this day and age - Our ancestors didn't have periods as often as we do because of more pregnancies, breastfeeding until the child is 4, worse nutrition and shorter life span.
What I'm trying to say is, no it won't hurt one but to skip one for a vacation.
The reason you even get a period while on the pill is to make you feel more ';womanly'; or at least that's what they thought back when they first started making the pill. It was probably a bunch of guys who don't even know how much of a pain it is to have it.
Anyways its not a real period so its safe to start the next pack as soon as you're done with this one, you might have some spotting but is usually mild. I'm actually contemplating doing the same thing for the same reason: vacation.
So go for it and have fun without that fake period bothering you
IMO if you are using bc to skip your period you are on the wrong type of birth control. It does not always work, and will screw your body up (I've tried it, and my period was screwy for months). Try Seasonale or the ring (don't go for the shot!).
FYI, you CAN get pregnant on the pill, so you definitely can ovulate, as the pill is only 99% effective.
its not the best thing to do, your body really needs to have a period once a month to clean..however theyre are birth controls that lessen your period to 3 times a year and are perfectly fine for you. You need to see a doctor so they can tell you exactly what YOUR body needs...not everything can handle birth control the same way!
Yes you can do that, you'll be ok, possibly you might get some light ';breakthrough'; bleeding though so it's not 100%.
