What does it mean when the ';traction control'; light comes on?

I have a 1996 Cadillac Concours and recently the traction control light came on. The car doesn't seem to be running any differently, except that I've also noticed that the rear end is a lot lower than it used to be and I keep scraping when I go over curbs and speed bumps etc. Can anybody give me some help or advice? Thanks! What does it mean when the ';traction control'; light comes on?
The TCS is in charge of traction and that is all. When it senses that one, or more of the tires has lost traction, due to rain, snow, ice, or a number of other reasons ,its job is to force that tire to regain traction. It usually does that by slowing the engine until the tires catch up and then accelerates again unless a tire should happen to break loose again, then it will do it over again. This is controlled by your computer and is completely separate from your ABS system (automatic braking system). What does it mean when the ';traction control'; light comes on?
If it's not an ABS light, in a Caddy. the traction control is hooked to all four tires, when going around a corner the center of balance of the car is thrown off, the traction control will shift the weight of the car by raising or lowering one side or the other, or the front and back, keeping the center of gravity in the center of the car, thus controlling traction. and giving a great ride

Part of your system is failing.
dont be fooled by these fools. ABS (antilock brake system) is an integral part of traction control. when abs sensor detects a wheel slipping, the traction control uses the ABS to brake that wheel to the speed it should be at. Traction control can also control the engine to an extent, by slowing the timing, to reduce the power.
Generally like when the ABS light comes on some part of the traction control system needs to be serviced, your owners manual can confirm this however.
