How do you feel about this quote as it relates to gun control?

Cops are just minutes away

Comments, pleaseHow do you feel about this quote as it relates to gun control?
The whole quote is as such: '; When seconds count, the police are but minutes away.';

It is a very true and poignant statement. I'd like anyone reading this to stop and look at the clock, and let it tick off 120 seconds, 2 small minutes. Then imagine that a rapist or murderer is kicking in your front door and the 911 operator has said that the police are ';only'; 2 minutes away. 120 seconds is beginning to seem like an AWFULLY long time right about now isn't it?How do you feel about this quote as it relates to gun control?
I think the saying you are referring to is ';when seconds count the cops are just minutes away.'; In the town where I live the average response time is about 9 1/2 minutes. The average rape, mugging, and murder take less than half of that. Here's a little exercise I like to use to show why concealed carry is a must: Pretend that you are a woman walking to her car alone at night. Now pretend that somebody calls the cops and starts to rape you. Let's now pretend that you are able to get on your cell phone and call the cops. Now sit there for 9.5 minutes and imagine all that will be happening as you wait helplessly for a cop to arrive. Most of the time the crime has already been committed by the time the cops get there. The police are left trying to put the pieces together and find a suspect rather than stopping the crime.
When seconds count, the police are only minutes away.

My brother is a police officer, and he tells me that the majority of his job is responding to incidents after the fact, gathering information and investigating.

The police are rarely, if ever, able to prevent a crime. There simply aren't enough of them. People need to be responsible for their own safety. As it relates to gun control, it is one more persuasive argument against restricting individuals from carrying weapons.

BTW - my brother, and most of the officers he knows, are against gun control.
Goes both ways.

Cops are farther away than a bullet is to your head, so you're better off defending yourself.

Cops are nearby, so why have a gun?

I don't own a gun but would like to (especially as a female). If we could get rid of guns completely, that'd be IDEAL, but even if we outlaw them, the bad people are going to buy them on the black market and the good people will have nothing to defend themselves with!

Did I say too much?
When seconds count, the police are only minutes away...

I like it when the full quote is used.

It only takes minutes to die. Also to my mind the only salient issue in gun control is the constitution.
I feel it is implying that minutes are too long to wait for the cops. That it is up to us to protect ourselves... with guns, I guess, since we're relating this to gun control.
Sounds like a warning that I don't like since I'm all for everyone owning a gun for protection. I like to hunt as well.
If you wana shoot, then shoot! but if not don't carry a piece.
