Why does my dash say CRUISE when it does not have cruise control?

1991 Toyota Pickup 2.4, L4, 2wd. When the sun shines a certain way on to my tachometer, I can see that the word CRUISE is there like it is meant to be lit up when CC turns on. It does not have Cruise Control, why does it have this? Why does my dash say CRUISE when it does not have cruise control?
My best guess is they use the same dash in multiple cars some in which have cruise control. Why does my dash say CRUISE when it does not have cruise control?
the manufacturer builds cars alike no matter the options available it would cost too much money to have all the different set ups., so if you have the base model basically all the wires are there for all the options
When they silk screen the glass for the dash it may well have several things there that your particular model does not support. This is also very common in the electronics industry. The LCD displays often have spots such as ';standby'; for example that are not used on some models and just don't ';light up';, but can be seen under the case you described.
1st guy is right. It's cheaper to use one universal dash for all the trucks.
i own a shop and that's in all the dashes just in case they had cruise in them, i had one that did have cruise in it,but all of them have the option built right in ,in case you wanted to add it to it,but that's why its there, good luck with it,hope this helps.
Hi,

Simple, when they cast the cluster they make all the fitting for all the options and the lights to make it easier and quicker to assemble so many cars with so many options. So while the space is there for a light to indicate the cruise control, but that was not an option that was purchased on your truck. Makes sense, back in 91 cruise was a luxury not a standard.

I have a few lights on my car for options that I do not have too.

I hope that made sense.
on all cars they have all option on the dash but if the package does not have a certain thing they do not put in a bulb for that accessory. so its just a open slot not hooked up so latter on if a person wants that option they go back to the dealer and instead of putting in a new dash they run the wires for that accessory put in a bulb and your set.
Cruise is an option, but they still have the spot in your dash incase you were to add cruise later on and you would have it already set up.
