Hello all,
I just started taking YAZ birth control. I have been taking birth control for nine days. I just participated in sexual intercourse and I was wondering what the odds of me getting pregnant and how long does it take to become active?
Thank you :)How long does it take for birth control to become active?
Doctors say a month just to cover themselves in case a pregnancy happens, but it's usually effective sooner than a month. I think if you do a Sunday start you are pretty well protected within about a week. It's always safe to use a second method just to make sure, and if it's been within 3 days since your intercourse you can take PlanB (the morning after pill) just to be safe. How long does it take for birth control to become active?
They tell you to wait at least a month, or they used to tell you to wait a month, at least one cycle of the pill. Call the pharmacist, and ask how long before the pill is effective. The odds of you getting pregnant are pretty good unless you still used other birth control as well. You should still use condoms unless you and your partner have had an HIV test or Hepatitis C test and truly trust each other to not cheat, and get one or both diseases from someone else. People seem to forget that the incubation for HIV can be over 10 years. I take this very seriously since my friend was raped and has to have blood work every three months.
I am not familiar with YAZ specifically but I know that most birth control pills are not considered effective until you start your second pack. So it should be 30 days, well technically 28 days. So unless you used a condom then I would say there is a moderate chance you could be pregnant. I would say it would be as if you weren't on birth control you would have the same, maybe slightly better chances.
Usually a month
not sure about YAZ birth control...however I was on another one, while alot of people tell you that you should be on it for 1-3 months before it starts to take effect, my doctor has told me it is pretty much effective as soon as you start taking it....this could be that particular one I was taking though.
I am not familiar with YAZ, but it takes 30 days for the pill to become effective, Depo shot is immediate
as with any hormonal birthcontrol, there is always a risk of break through bleeding, pregnancy, drug interactions w/other medications, weight gain, low sex drive, mood swings, blood clots, stroke, etc. is it really worth risking your life over??
NFP is cheap, safe, easy to learn, plus there is no risk of health problems. Also, it can be used to achieve/avoid a pregnancy. My husband %26amp; I have been using it to avoid a pregnancy for 10 yrs. successfully due to severe health problems. He doesn't want me to risk my life or that of an unborn child.
It does require commitment on both parts but isn't that what marriage is all about?? you have so much to gain %26amp; nothing to lose. It strengthens marriages %26amp; brings couples closer together. It is well known that most couples who divorce (over 50%)are those who use contraception mainly b/c the woman is treated as an object due to sex on demand %26amp; the responsibility lies w/her for birthcontrol whereas NFP puts responsibility on BOTH partners %26amp; enables a man to respect his wife due to self control. Those who use NFP have less than 1% divorce rate.( see site for information.)
It is not Catholic birthcontrol at all but a way to monitor your fertility %26amp; learn how your body works. We found our NFP practioner via a local hospital. listed below are the sites where you can find one in your area.
give it a try. good luck.
