i know you are suppose to start it the sunday after your period. but is it bad to start earlier. Because i went to the doctor on monday and they said to start it the sunday after my period but i had my period last week and dont want to wait another month to start it. so im wondering if its bad to start it early. Is it bad to start birth control before you get your period?
It's not bad. They normally tell you to start it the first Sunday after your period because you won't have ovulated yet, and there is time for the pill to keep you from ovulating this cycle. If you do that, it means you can count on being protected from pregnancy after a week.
I can't really tell how long ago you started your last period, but if it wasn't too much more than a week, you can probably still start now and be protected after a week. However, the safe thing to do would be to wait a full month no matter when you start (which is what most doctors will recommend anyway), after which you can be sure the pill is fully effective. If you do that, then no, it really doesn't matter when you start.
