You will be removing it's only natural source of warmth and cooling. Don't do it.If I shave my lab will it control the shedding?
Temporarily, but you will ruin his coat forever. Labs have a double coat and are renowned for shedding - it comes with the breed. All you can do is groom him regularly and a bath when he is at his worst. If I shave my lab will it control the shedding?
asbsolutely NOT,, never shave your lab..
many people, like yourself,, think the short haired dogs do not shed as much WRONG,, they shed all year long.... GOLDEN RETRIEVERS , for instance,, only shed twice a year...
you picked the wrong breed if you do not like hair
No - you can't shave a short-haired dog and it's the undercoat that causes most of the shedding anyway. You'll damage the water repellent outer coat that protects your dog as well. You need to brush dog, preferably daily.
Don't even think about it! Your dog needs it's coat and a Lab has a short coat to start with. There are many grooming tools available which will help with this (ask the advice of a professional groomer about the best ones for you) but ultimately you have a breed which sheds and sheds alot.
Where you aware when you got a dog of this breed that they shed to the extent that they do?
no.
well duh....here's your sign...a dog has no hair, it can't shed........sheesh
if u were to do so make sure you keep it warm....and i don't meen light it on fire!!!
yes, and it will look really stupid and be miserable, labs shed loads, you should have got a poodle if you wanted a dog that doesn't shed
Hey I just recently bought the Furminator brush. Kind of expensive but it truly works well. I have three dogs and two cats...lets just say I can pet my Golden retriever now without the cloud of hair...also works great on my lab/GR mix. My other much shorter haired dog does not do as well but it works pretty good anyways. You should try it.
Are you serious? If you shaved your head would it control the shedding? For a little while until it grew back.......personally I think that it would be cruel. Maybe you should have an animal that doesn't shed?!
no. it will only be cruel in that you will be taking the main protection your dog has from cold, wet and sun.
one of the biggest contributors to shedding in water dogs is over bathing. By lathering down to the skin, you strip the vital oil out of the skin and make the hair folicles weak leading to flaking and shedding.
Regular light brushing and petting keep the skin in good condition and helps to controle loose hair.
Hope this helps.
There is very seldom any real justification for shaving dog. Don't do it. If shedding is excessive, it could be the food. Try one that contains both Omega 3 and Omega 6 fatty acids, or try a fish oil supplement. All dogs shed, some breeds more than others.
Shaving would temporarily reduce the shedding problem, but you will be introducing a whole new set of issues, so please refrain.
