When is it better to start birth control pills?

is it better on a sunday after your period or the 1st day of your period? When is it better to start birth control pills?
The day to start your birth control is a personal decision that you come to with your doctor. However, here are the 3 most common options:

1. You can start taking the pill on the Sunday after your period starts.

The advantage is that when you start on a Sunday, you generally will only have your periods during the week and not on the weekends. The disadvantage with this method is that you will have to use a backup birth control method for the next 7 days of the first cycle.

2. You can start taking the pill on the first day of your period. The advantage is that you will not need a backup method of birth control. The disadvantage is that it can be any random day of the week. It may be harder for you to remember when to start a new pack (depending on the brand you use) and you might end up having your period on the weekends, when many people like to have fun and not worry about bleeding.

3. You can start taking the pill on the day it is prescribed, no matter where you are in your cycle. If you do this and you're currently sexually active, take a pregnancy test to make sure that you are not pregnant. The advantage is that you can get in the habit of taking your pills right away. The disadvantages are that you will need to use a backup method of birth control for the first month and you might end up having your period on the weekends.

Hope this helps your decision!
