Is it okay to be on birth control when you are breastfeeding your baby?

My baby is due in two weeks :) ! Yay! And I'm planning on trying breastfeeding. This is my first. I was on birthcontrol before, I have horrible periods and also acne and this helps with that. Is it okay to take birth control while I am breastfeeding? Is it okay to be on birth control when you are breastfeeding your baby?
Just know the hormones will end up in your baby's system, and can cause problems later on, like an early case of breast cancer or reproductive cancer. An overload of feminine hormones in a young baby can do this. So, for me, no it's not okay. Anything that can pass through the breastmilk WILL make it to the baby, and you might not see the results of it until later on in life.Is it okay to be on birth control when you are breastfeeding your baby?
You cannot use the regular combined pill while breastfeeding. You CAN use the progestin-only 'mini-pill.' The estrogen in regular pills will dry up your milk.

You will probably not get a period at all for several months while breastfeeding, so no need to worry about 'horrble' periods. Once your cycles do resume, if they are still bad, you might consider the Mirena IUD. Most women get very llight periods on it, or none at all.

(BTW, don't say that you are going to 'try' to breastfeed. Say that you are GOING to breastfeed. Well over 95% of women CAN breastfeed, if they are sufficiently motivated and have good support. So don't expect to 'fail.'
if you're exclusively breastfeeding then your perdio will probably be delayed anyway. mine didn't return until Cohen was 9 month old. But yes, you can be on birth control but it needs to be a kind that doesn't contain estrogen like the mini-pill, IUD or the Depo shot. Estrogen can reduce milk supply.

not all women have delayed periods but most do
Yes, but my doctor told me to wait until my first period, but sometimes when you breast feed you won't get your first period for months, so I don't see any problems in taking it. You understand your cycle might be messed up for a bit since you will be bleeding from the delivery up to 6 weeks.
