Testing the distilled water for conductivity is called a control. Why is it important to do this before testing?

any other sample's conductivity?Testing the distilled water for conductivity is called a control. Why is it important to do this before testing?
To make sure that there are no impurities present, and also to make sure that the conductivity meter is set to the zero mark. If this had not been done, the measured conductivities of all samples would be wrong.

Such a control is also called a blank.
